A well-known framework for manufacturing strategy is used, which shows, by means of examples, that environmental issues may significantly affect each component of that framework. These effects can take on many forms, ranging from threats to opportunities and from constraints to cost reduction. It is concluded that all levels within manufacturing management will soon be confronted with environmental issues and that these issues are sufficiently important to be taken seriously.
