Modelling by example (MbE), a methodology based on interpretative computer intelligence, overcomes this hurdle by supporting a dynamic exchange of examples between a decision mmaker and a convivial, knowledged-based Decision Support System. This paper discusses and illustrates the two basic requirements for the realisation of MbE, namely the design of object-oriented, visual modelling environments supporting interactive problem structuring, and the development of a knowledge-based system component which actively supports the identification and the application of the different problem-solving techniques which are stored in the system's model base
