Managing DMNCs: a search for a new paradigm

Author: Doz, Yves L. ; Prahalad, C. K.INSEAD Area: Strategy In: Fundamental issues in strategy: a research agenda - Rumelt, Richard P.;Schendel, Dan E;Teece - 1994 - INSEAD Book Language: EnglishDescription: p.495-526.Type of document: INSEAD ChapterNote: Please ask the Library for this chapter.Abstract: While there has been a lot of debate on the nature of global competition and that of the DMNC, very little attention has been paid to the conceptual and theoretical frameworks used to analyse DMNCs and their management. Many attempts have been made to analyse aspects of the MNC starting from an established theoretical base... We will argue, in this article, that on the whole, scholarly research in the area of the functioning of the MNC has suffered from a desire, among others from the ignorance of what existing theories could bring them. Since existing paradigms, by the very nature of their underlying simplifying assumptions, are not fully adequate to capture the complexity and richness of the DMNC, and since discipline-based researchers have seldom taken the DMNC as an object of research, this discrepancy is not surprising
