How green is your manufacturing strategy?

Author: Van Wassenhove, Luk N. ; Corbett, Charles J.INSEAD Area: Technology and Operations ManagementIn: Exploring the impact of environmental issues on manufacturing strategy. Proceedings of the first international conference of the Decisions Sciences Institute by R.D. Reid, 1991 Language: EnglishType of document: INSEAD ChapterNote: Please note that no copies are availableAbstract: In this paper, the impact of environmental issues on manufacturing strategy is illustrated. A well-known framework for manufacturing strategy is used, which shows, by means of examples, that environmental issues may significantly affect each component of that framework. These effects can take on many forms, ranging from threats to opportunities and from constraints to cost reduction. It is concluded that all levels within manufacturing management will soon be confronted with environmental issues and that these issues are sufficiently important to be taken seriously. The main goal of this article is indeed to create a certain extent of awareness and to show that this is a promising area for further research
